Paulina Mitropoulos is the Director of Multilingual Learner Education (MLE) for the Somerville Public Schools. As district administrator, Paulina oversees all MLE programming, curriculum, instruction, and assessment of PreK-12 multilingual learners in Somerville. Paulina is also adjunct faculty for the University of Massachusetts Boston and Lesley University where she teaches courses in second language acquisition, assessment of culturally and linguistically diverse learners, bilingual curriculum development, and dual language pedagogy. Previously, Paulina worked for the Boston Public Schools in two leadership roles: Leader of Teaching and Learning at the Rafael Hernández PreK-8 Dual Language School and Director of ELL Services and Professional Development in the Office of English Learners. Prior to these roles, Paulina was the Founding ELL Specialist at Excel Academy Orient Heights in East Boston as well as a middle school ESL teacher at the Susan B. Anthony Middle School in the Revere Public Schools. Paulina’s experience as an educator, school-based leader, and district administrator has influenced her multifaceted approach towards advancing multilingualism and academic achievement for multilingual learners.
Paulina holds an M.Ed in Curriculum and Teaching and a B.A in International Relations and Hispanic Language and Literature from Boston University. She is trilingual in English, Greek, and Spanish, and is currently trying to learn Portuguese.
