Welcome Deeper Learners!

We are excited to welcome you to Westwood, MA at the end of September. The Deeper Learning Boston conference has a rich history. Although this is our inaugural year of the conference, the Deeper Learning movement began in the Northeast region and spread domestically and globally from there. Please enjoy this short background on the conference itself, where we honor "On Whose Shoulders We Stand: A Brief History"

This digital program is for all things DL Boston! Be sure to select one Deep Dive for Day 1 and two Den Talks for Day 2. You will only be able to sign up for one Deep Dive! These sessions have capacity limits and will fill up. To see an overview of the event and session types, check out the event flow.

We can’t wait to see you!

Let's Move: Exploring the Creative Process

This workshop will take the participants into a deep dive through the process of dance making. Workshop leaders will share examples and ideas of how to incorporate the exercises presented into different content areas like Math, Science, and Humanities. This workshop is designed for anyone interested in using movement to learn and discover. NO PREVIOUS DANCE TRAINING REQUIRED. The application of this workshop is not limited to educators in the arts, but educators of all levels who are interested in creative thinking; collaboration; cross-discipline work; or integrating movement into their classroom. A special focus is emphasizing on using text generated by the participants as a source of creating movement as well as weaving text into the dance. Participants will warm up and get their creative juices going through a series of improvisation exercises. They will be given some prompts to do reflective writing, and share words or phrases in small groups. Using these texts, participants will be guided to create their own movement vocabulary, and then building phrases. They will then be guided to develop structures to create a collective dance work. Leaders of the workshop will provide feedback and suggestions throughout the creative process to help each group refine their creation.  In this workshop, the participants will have an authentic experience of the process Continuum Dance Project often uses to create their work. They will be empowered to create their own work beyond this workshop or use these ideas to help their students create original work.
